On the Day of Russian Science, Ph.D, Elizaveta Grakhova, Senior Researcher, Associate Professor of the Department of Telecommunication Systems of the Ufa State Aviation Technical University, Head of the Youth Laboratory of the Research and Education Center “Sensor Systems Based on Integrated Radio Photonics Devices”, told the correspondent of the regional newspaper about the unique developments of the department and about the support the university is provided by the republic.
- Modern telecommunications, in fact, is an interdisciplinary field that includes the theory of electromagnetic fields and waves, and special sections of mathematics, and data science, and photonics, and many other areas of knowledge. In order to meet the world level of research and development, we not only work in these areas, but also try to look into the future, to predict what will be on the research agenda in a few years,” says Elizaveta Grakhova. “Therefore, we are already engaged today in integrated photonics, all-optical computing methods, 6G network technologies, the development of new coding methods, machine learning in communication signal processing, as well as related areas where complex signal processing is required, such as biophotonics.
What kind of support does the republic provide to the university? Intensive work is currently being carried out in the republic to support scientific research and development. Significant support is provided by the tools implemented as part of the work of the world-class Eurasian REC. Competitions for funding both individual research and large projects have been established.
— Thus, a team of scientists from the USATU School of Photonics, together with FIR scientific groups and with the involvement of scientists from BSMU and BSU, won a mega-grant from the Republic of Bashkortostan for research in the field of intelligent methods of multimodal medical diagnostics, the leader is a leading scientist with a worldwide reputation. There are also internships abroad and in Russia for young scientists, competitions for scholarships of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan for graduate students and students, which motivates our team to engage in scientific activities,” explains Elizaveta Grakhova.
What is the work of the youth laboratory of the REC "Sensor systems based on devices of integrated radio photonics" dedicated to? According to our expert, now young scientists of the laboratory are actively conducting research on the creation of photonic integrated circuits for use in optical coherence tomography, in the industrial Internet of things and for the optical implementation of machine learning in signal processing. The solution of the tasks set in the project will make it possible to qualitatively improve energy efficiency, speed and compactness of the constituent devices in sensor systems.
