- Since January 1972, winter ski campaigns in the regions of Bashkortostan have become traditional. Students collected interesting material about the legendary heroes of the Civil War V.K.Blyukher, A.M. Cheverev, met in cities and villages with veterans. From 1972 to 1980 alone, 700 students took part in such trips, who covered about 1,000 kilometers on skis, gave 76 concerts, and gave more than 600 lectures. All materials and interesting information obtained during the campaigns became public, published in the regional press, and transferred to the museums of the city and the republic.
- In January 1969, the Council of the Republican Voluntary Society "Burevestnik" noted in its resolution that the sports club of the Ufa Aviation Institute fully fulfilled the plan and obligation for the training of athletes-graders and masters of sports. From year to year, they became more and more, among the students of the UAI there are champions and record holders of the country, Europe, the Olympic Games.
In the 60s, student Anatoly Syrchin became world record holders in parachuting.
“I entered the Ufa aviation, being a member of the USSR national parachuting team and an instructor of the flying club, where our students also trained. - said Anatoly Konstantinovich on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the USATU, to celebrate which he specially came from the Krasnodar Territory. - We immediately organized a parachute section at the institute and formed a team; I was both a coach and a captain.
I would like to emphasize that our victories would not have been without the support of the rector R.R. Mavlyutov. I did not break off good relations with Ryfat Rakhmatullovich until his death. I owe him the choice of my path in aviation. "
In his student years, Anatoly Syrchin became the champion of the USSR, multiple winner of international competitions and world record holder in parachuting, trained in flying, mastered aerobatics.
In the same years, student biathlete Adgam Tagirov won the champion title of the Burevestnik sports society. In 1968 he was included in the USSR youth team, in which he won the gold medal and became the world champion the following year. For a long time, Adgam Minkhamatovich worked at the Department of Physical Education of the USATU.
Victor Varlamov, master of sports of the USSR of international class, won his main victories in sports while studying at the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology (now IATM) of the UAI-USATU.
In 1974, the speed skater Viktor Varlamov became the champion of the Sport festival of the People of the USSR, the next year he set a record at a distance of 10,000 meters. "The debutant of the Soviet national team conquered the speed skating world with his speed," wrote the Pravda newspaper about him.
In 1976, Viktor Varlamov was awarded the right to defend the honor of the country at the XI Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck. He started at distances of 5,000 and 10,000 meters and became the fourth result in both events.
“I returned from the Olympics upset, I did not hide it,” Viktor Ivanovich later recalled, “but the rector RR Mavlyutov supported me. He invited me to his office and warmly said; “You have shown an outstanding result at the most important competition of any athlete, and you have already made history. We are proud of you!"
Viktor Ivanovich worked as an engineer at our university, then at a factory, and later took up coaching.
One of the outstanding victories in Bashkir boxing is associated with the name of another of our graduates, Valery Limasov.
Valery Pavlovich Limasov, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, was born in 1955 in Ufa. In 1979, he graduated from the UAI as an esteemed athlete: under the guidance of his mentor Rim Valiullin, he won the European Youth Championship, twice won the European Championship and was selected for the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976. At the main games of the four-year period Limassov was one of the favorites, he won the fight with the New Zealander, but lost to the American Ray Leonard.
Honored coach of the RSFSR Rim Valiullin is still reviewing that famous fight of his pupil:
“Rey was a cut above, just fantastic, we thought that if we were lucky by the lot and met him in the semifinals, Valera would become third, if in the final, then the second, but fate decreed that they met in the main battle”. Subsequently, our graduate was the first of the republic's athletes to be awarded the title "Honored Master of Sports" and the medal "For Labor Valor".
In the heading "For the 90th anniversary of USATU”, we will tell you more than once about our students-Olympic athletes, world champions and outstanding athletes.
