In recent years, in the process of holding annual training camps in the aviation units of the country, teachers and students of the USATU Military Training Center have increasingly come across the products of Zaslon JSC (St. Petersburg). These are, in particular, airfield air conditioners, aircraft mobile electrical units, installations for testing the hydraulic systems of aircraft.
Face-to-face acquaintance of VUC teachers with representatives of Zaslon JSC took place in 2020 at the All-Russian Scientific and Technical Conference in Voronezh. The company's specialists showed interest in USATU and readiness for cooperation, and also agreed to provide the necessary assistance in studying modern models of ground support equipment for aircraft and helicopters produced for the Russian Air Force.
The enterprise pursues an active personnel policy and is ready to accept our students for internships and internships with further employment of graduates. The management of the plant has more than once assisted in organizing the educational process, providing relevant materials on the latest samples of its products for students to study.
And just recently, the production workers donated to our MTC a model of the airfield mobile power source APA-100U on a scale of 1:20, which will be used in the educational process.
By the way, mock-up production is another area of the company's activity. Models are made with the highest precision and maximum detail, and to achieve greater realism, they use dynamic, light and sound elements.
One of the most common vehicles for flight support in the Russian Air Force is an airfield mobile electric unit (APA). There are several of its modifications, but one of the most modern, operated in parts, is the APA-100U, the manufacturer of which is Zaslon JSC.
The airfield mobile electric unit is mounted on the Ural-4320-30 chassis. The car body contains a power plant, alternating current and direct current generators, batteries, transformers, electrical equipment units and other necessary equipment (cables, connectors).
The unit works like this: the engine of the electric unit generates mechanical energy, which is converted by generators into electrical energy, and that energy is supplied to the aircraft systems through cables.
Simply put, such a machine is a huge battery on wheels, thanks to which it is possible to carry out a single or group electric start of aircraft engines and power the onboard electrical equipment of aircraft.
Two cantilever swivel booms are mounted on the sides of the body for feeding and laying cables. APA-100U can be operated at ambient temperature from -50 to +50°C.
“The model will be used as a teaching aid for the training of future officers studying in the military specialty “Operation and repair of airfield technical support for aircraft and helicopters.”
We do not have such a machine in stock, but on the layout we can demonstrate to students its main components, assemblies, construction principles and functionality.
The machine belongs to the ground support facilities and is used to power the aircraft engine start, power on-board electrical equipment on the ground, as well as to tow aircraft, ”comments Major Azat Yakhin.
