The World No Tobacco Day will take place on May 31st. The locations of the event at USATU will be the hall of the educational building No. 2, the student development space "Trajectory" of the educational building No. 6, the dormitory No. 6 of the campus.
The Member States of the World Health Organization established world No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw worldwide attention to the tobacco epidemic and the deaths and diseases it causes.
The theme for May 31, 2022 is “Tobacco is a threat to our environment”.
This year's campaign encourages consumers to stop smoking and government officials to take the initiative to improve laws. Tobacco manufacturers must bear full responsibility for the damage that their product causes to nature at all stages of production, transportation and disposal.
- 600,000,000 trees are cut down to produce cigarettes;
- 84,000,000 tons of CO2 are emitted into the atmosphere, which leads to an increase in temperatures around the world;
- 22,000,000,000 liters of water is used to make cigarettes.
Restricting tobacco use is essential to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals, even those that are not directly related to public health.
