In Bashkortostan, the winners of the competition for regional mega-grants to support scientific research conducted under the guidance of leading scientists have been announced. They recognized four scientific projects of the teams of USATU, USPTU, BashSU and BSMU.
A team of scientists from our university is implementing a scientific project "High-precision multimodal diagnostics in medicine and biology based on advanced methods of intelligent signal processing and their generation by means of integral photonics." The leading scientist is Rinat Esenaliev, Director of the High Resolution Ultrasound Center of the University of Texas at Galveston Medical Department.
“I am very glad that we are completing the Year of Science and Technology with such a wonderful victory,” noted the rector of USATU Sergei Novikov. - I am sincerely proud of our young researchers who work at the highest level and do such complex things.
The project will be implemented on the basis of USATU with the involvement of scientists from several universities and enterprises of the real sector of the economy of Bashkiria and is aimed at creating scientific and technological groundwork in photonics applications in medical diagnostics. I am convinced that the innovative solutions proposed by our researchers will help save the lives of many people. "
One of the project participants, director of the USATU School of Advanced Research and Technologies of Photonics, senior researcher Ruslan Kutluyarov comments:
“The high social significance of the project is determined by the problem being solved - increasing the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosing the boundaries of oncological pathologies.
The project leader is Rinat Yessenaliev, head of the laboratory for optical monitoring and sensors, director of the high-resolution ultrasound center at the University of Texas Medical Department at Galveston, author of an optoacoustic diagnostic method for non-invasive therapy and theranostics.
Specialists in photonics, data science, medicine and mathematics will work together on the project. The implementation of the project will contribute to both the emergence of breakthrough developments for a qualitatively new level of diagnostics, and the development of a scientific school in this direction in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Our team is inspired by the victory in the competition and will do everything in our power to obtain results that are ahead of the world and their effective implementation in the medical industry of the republic. "
Competitive selection was carried out in accordance with the Decree of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan No. 477 of September 6, 2021 "On measures of state support for scientific research conducted under the guidance of leading scientists in the Republic of Bashkortostan."
The main condition for obtaining a grant was the conduct of scientific research by universities and scientific organizations under the guidance of leading world-renowned scientists. In accordance with this, the competition received a total of 16 applications. 10 of them were admitted to the competitive selection and further examination.
The evaluation criteria’s are - the areas of activity of the Eurasian REC, the feasibility of the proposed scientific research, as well as the target indicators of the project. One of the key criteria for evaluating applications was the creation and development of laboratories within the framework of the project, as well as the amount of extra-budgetary funding pledged by the applicants for the project.
12 Skoltech experts took an active part in evaluating the accepted applications, under the leadership of Grigory Kabatiansky, Vice President for Academic Cooperation. The group of experts included such eminent scientists as Professor Iskander Akhatov, Russian bioinformatist, Professor Mikhail Gelfand, Professor Andrei Osiptsov, Professor of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Arizona Ildar Gabitov and others.
