Science Slam: Science has a place for fun and rock and roll
USATU is recruiting a team of young scientists to participate in the popular science competition “Science Slam”.
You need a vivid mindset and scientific work about which you want to share with a wide audience. The prerequisites are a sense of humor and aspiration to make the World a better place.
Science Slam is a presentation of scientific research in the popular humorous stand-up format. Everything is quite simple: on the stage of a bar or club, young scientists talk about the main scientific ideas of our time and their own research. Each slammer has 10 minutes to convey his idea to the audience in the most accessible, fun and interesting way, and the audience chooses the best one with applause.
Science Slam Rules:
1. Should be own scientific research.
2. 10 minutes for each performance.
3. The presentation must be understandable to the public.
Science Slam, an international project to popularize science, originated in Germany in the early 2000s. Soon it came to Russia. It held in Ufa since March 2015. Within the framework of the scientific show, participants from USATU have performed many times, including Alexander Lobanov, Sergey Ivanov, Artur Ganeev, Yulia Modina, Alexander Zolotov, Eduard Karimov, etc.
Yulia Modina, an engineer at the Research Institute for Physics of Advanced Materials, a participant in the 2018 Ufa Slam, recalls; “We trained for about a month, and it was an incredibly interesting time. We met with the mentor and each other several times a week and brought our performances to perfection. It was awesome and great! It was exciting to not only perform on stage, but then answer the audience's tricky questions.
Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience, had many new interesting acquaintances with the young researchers, their projects and developments in various scientific fields.
In addition, there was an entertaining exhibition accompanying the event. What was not there! For example, exposure to medical staff, presented surgical simulators, tried to put a suture on a wound by ourselves, and someone was happy to demonstrate huge beetles and spiders".

Participants will have an exciting preparation for the performance, which will include a photo session, trainings in public speaking, as well as rehearsals on stage.
