ANO "Managing Company of the Scientific and Educational Center of the Republic of Bashkortostan" has successfully completed the implementation of the first advanced training program "English for Academic Purposes".

The main goal of the program was to prepare researchers and teachers of higher education for professional activities in English.

“The Competence Development Center of the world-class Eurasian REC is aimed at solving the most important tasks. Qualitative "flashing" of the scientific and pedagogical staff of universities and scientific organizations solves the issues of the personnel situation in the regional scientific and educational sector. Because of increasing their professional and managerial competencies, scientists of the Eurasian REC will have the opportunity for their qualitative development. We plan that by 2024 more than 4,000 researchers will be able to improve their skills through more than 60 advanced training and retraining programs. These educational programs will be implemented at the expense of the federal and regional budgets within the framework of grants for the REC activity program,” said Irina Burenina, director of the ANO Management Company of the REC RB.

The course included 10 modules, each of which was aimed at developing certain competencies. For 7 months, program participants studied techniques and language tools for effective presentation of material, methods of text analysis and means of opposition, principles of persuasion and the basics of public speaking.

According to the head of the Competence Development Center of ANO "Managing Company of the Scientific and Educational Center of the Republic of Bashkortostan" Sofia Saifullina, such a program will help teachers and scientists work effectively in a multilingual and multicultural environment, which is widely represented in the universities of Bashkortostan.

Researchers and university professors, graduate students with a level of language competence B1 and above were able to improve their skills in English. The training was held for 41 students according to the program developed by the publishing house Oxford University Press. The teachers of the program are qualified specialists with diplomas and certificates from recognized international professional organizations.

“The course was very intense. Scientists were interested in building their English so that it was easy to communicate, write and lecture. And we have ensured that English is used even in free communication. Happiness is when you are understood, it is very important for people of science to feel comfortable in any conditions.”

The acquired competencies will enable scientists of the Eurasian REC to reach not only a qualitatively new level in conducting lectures for foreign students, but also in competent writing of articles for scientific publications, as well as in building effective scientific communication with representatives of the scientific community and foreign partner companies.

“Such a program is very important for me, as a scientist, because, first of all, it gives not only basic knowledge of the English language, but also improves the academic level of English, which is very important for scientists,” said Veronika, a researcher at the Research Institute for Physics of Advanced Materials, USATU Polyakov.

Post-graduate student of the Bashkir State Pedagogical University named after M. Akmulla Ilya Radygin noted that the tasks in the learning process were different: “The most useful thing in this work, I think, is live communication with other scientists and teachers exclusively in English. It is also useful for raising the level of erudition of researchers.”

The students' projects were defended in the auditorium of the Eurasian REC, which operates at the Ufa State Aviation Technical University.
