On the Day of the Republic, a laboratory for precision processing of materials was opened at the Ufa State Aviation Technical University, which is part of the Uniform Innovation Complex of the university. The laboratory is a full-fledged workshop for the production of furniture.

The idea of ​​making your own dorm furniture has been around for a long time. Today, prices in the furniture market are very high, and with the departure of foreign manufacturers, they have jumped significantly. It's one thing to furnish an apartment, but quite another to have hundreds of dorm rooms on campus.

Therefore, the initiative proposed by the rector Sergei Novikov was picked up at the university, worked out and brought to life.

The room for the workshop was found here on the campus, the repair required minimal costs. Equipment consisting of several CNC machines was purchased from Taiwan. Provided in the workshop and storage areas for building materials and accessories.

The staff of the laboratory is small. In addition to the head, it includes a site foreman who develops a computer model and a program, as well as four employees directly involved in production and assembly.

Now the showroom of the workshop presents the most minimal set of furniture - a table, a stool, a bed, a bedside table and two wardrobes for clothes. The current productivity of the workshop-laboratory is 10 sets per day.

The plans include the production of desks for classrooms and even the production of office furniture for laboratories and classrooms. By the way, the workshop has already introduced the principles of lean production - very aesthetic coasters for fire extinguishers are made from waste here.

Most importantly, savings in relation to furniture purchased from suppliers range from 30 to 200 percent

But that's not all. In the laboratory, students will be able to practice computer modeling, get hard skills on automated machines, and just earn an extra penny. This will certainly be of interest to foreign students who stay in hostels in the summer.

“I am very glad that on the Day of the Republic the university receives such an excellent gift - a laboratory that is completely innovative in its idea. With our production, we first want to meet the needs of the university itself, but then we expect to enter the republican market and provide social facilities. I think that in a year we will be able to announce a competition for our students - future engineers and designers to develop the best furniture design for the hostel. And then we will offer our products to other universities of the republic,” says Rector Sergey Novikov.
