The XVIII International Forum-Competition for Young Scientists "Actual Problems of Subsoil Use" has opened at St. Petersburg Mining University. More than a thousand researchers from 19 countries of the world take part in it. Most of the Russian participants are representatives of universities of the Nedra consortium, which today unites over 80 leading educational institutions of the country that train specialists for the mineral resource complex. Recall that UGATU was one of the first to join the Nedra consortium, in 2021.
The youth delegation of our university was one of the most numerous - 23 representatives of almost all faculties and institutes of the university.
Rector Vladimir Litvinenko opened the large-scale forum within the walls of St. Petersburg Mining University. In his speech, he noted that in the modern world it is especially important to work effectively with resources in the bowels of the earth, using modern engineering knowledge, and by combining the efforts of progressive humanity.
Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, also sent his greetings to the participants and guests of the forum; Natalya Komarova, Governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra; Dmitry Vasilenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, etc.
The rector of UGATU Sergey Novikov, vice-rectors, deans of faculties and directors of institutes, attended the plenary session of the forum in an online format.
- After the end of the forum "Actual problems of subsoil use" we are waiting for the impressions of our students, - said Sergey Novikov. – I am sure that at such a large-scale event they will gain new information, useful experience, present their research and establish contacts with young colleagues from other universities in Russia and abroad.
The 2022 Forum-Competition program includes breakout sessions on 23 promising areas for the development of the mineral resource complex, specialized lectures on “Philosophy of Science”, assembly lectures, and thematic case championships, consultations from leading scientists and experts from relevant companies. Participants will also make presentations and offer their solutions for the development of modern industrial production technologies.
